Want to make it from scratch?

If you want to go all out with a fresh, no-sugar-added homemade apple cider, this recipe is absolutely worth it. Warm spices, real apples, and zero preservatives — your house will smell like a fall farmers market the whole time it's cooking.

  • 10–12 medium apples
  • 6 cups of water
  • 1–2 cinnamon sticks
  • Whole cloves
  • Ground nutmeg
  • 1 small slice fresh ginger
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  1. Add all ingredients to an Instant Pot and pressure cook for 15 minutes, then allow to release naturally for 15 minutes. Alternatively, simmer in a large pot for 2–2.5 hours.
  2. Mash the cooked apples with a potato masher, then strain into a large bowl. Once cooled, strain again through cheesecloth for a cleaner finish.
  3. Use your fresh cider in the mocktail recipe above. Store the rest in the fridge for up to a week.

Pro tip

Can't find organic or preservative-free apple cider? Fresh-pressed cider from a local farmers market is usually your best bet in fall. It makes a noticeable difference in flavour — and no unwanted additives to worry about.
